Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Training Course Overview:

Value Stream Mapping training enables Jackson students to visually summarize processes highlighting their waste, and opportunities for improvement. Value Stream Mapping is an essential tool of Lean Manufacturing. 'Value stream' refers to the fact that the mapping is depicting the process flow by which raw materials, information, etc. are altered and combined forming something for which customers are willing to pay. Along the way, any actions for which customers are not willing to pay are considered waste and highlighted on the map. Wastes generally take the form of downtime, inventory, inspection, etc.; manifestations of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Jackson

Chimneyville - The City with Soul

Excellent choice! Jackson was established as a trade route village on the Pearl River connect to markets in Tennessee and travel from New Orleans. It was chosen to serve as the state's capital due to being the most habitable central location, beautiful surroundings, potable and navigable water, and timber. Road and railway connections were made to adjacent cities. Saloons, casinos, and Blues music flourished. Riverboat gaming followed. Legal and medical excellence evolved notably at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Levees and a canal system were built. Now, Jackson is home to several major industries including electrical equipment, processed food, and metal products. Surrounding areas remain agriculturally-focused including livestock, soybeans, cotton, and poultry. Jackson offers many after-class entertainment options such as the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, Jackson Zoological Park, and LeFleur's Bluff State Park.

Energy

I had the pleasure of working with our Master Black Belt at our energy tech firm. There, he created an internal mentorship and training program to teach lean/six sigma concepts. The training was made available to employees spread both horizontally and vertically throughout the organization. Executives, managers, assemblers and receptionists alike were soon finding and eliminating waste within their workday. This divide-and-conquer philosophy in executing the continuous improvement program was not only an incredibly efficient way to find and implement cost savings, but also created a culture of empowerment within our organization. Our MBB encouraged all of his students to use these techniques to add value to the organization, in-turn making them more valuable employees.
