Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Training Course Overview:

Value Stream Mapping training enables Houston students to visually summarize processes highlighting their waste, and opportunities for improvement. Value Stream Mapping is an essential tool of Lean Manufacturing. 'Value stream' refers to the fact that the mapping is depicting the process flow by which raw materials, information, etc. are altered and combined forming something for which customers are willing to pay. Along the way, any actions for which customers are not willing to pay are considered waste and highlighted on the map. Wastes generally take the form of downtime, inventory, inspection, etc.; manifestations of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Houston

Bayou City - Energy Capital of the World

Excellent choice! Houston began with discovery of oil at the Spindletop oil field near Beaumont. Oil combined with Galveston's hurricane devastation encouraged investment in the Houston ship channel and deep water Port of Houston. WWWII spurred ship building. Development of air conditioning made Houston's low cost of living more attractive to northern companies who began relocating there. Aerospace emerged. And Houston has flourished becoming the 4th largest city in the US by population. As such, Houston will keep you busy after Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Training with popular museums, the zoo, huge stadiums, malls, possibly the world's largest rodeo, gardens, and a stunning aquarium.

I had the privilege of working with our Master Black Belt when he spearheaded the Six Sigma transformation within our company. The "do-as-I-do" disciplined style of his direction resonated within our entire organization. This was during a period of escalated growth and the management struggles that often accompany. Through his steady and focused approach, he brought structure to the craziness, garnered buy-in at all levels, and was quickly recognized as the guru. This was several years ago and now as a leader in an unrelated industry, I still find myself looking back on many of the concepts and methods we discussed. You may remember that one great teacher you had when you were in school, or a mentor you still think about today? He is one of those kind of special people who one is fortunate to know.

Feel like this (5S) course was helpful and will give our employees some good ideas when moving to our new building. I wish more of our management group could have attended the workshop.
