Wichita began as a Chisholm Trail trading post and Texan cattle drive railhead to eastern markets. Population expanded as a result. |
Wichita State and Friends Universities were built. Refineries followed after oil and natural gas discovery. Oil wealth spawned aircraft manufacturing whose growth accelerated with WWII. Wichita remains an economic and cultural center of the state offering many events and points of interest for students after training. Most popular are the Sedgwick County Zoo, Museum of World Treasures, Wichita Gardens, Orpheum Theater, and the Original Pizza Hut.
